/ Bujanovac, Vranje, Today, 22nd 11. 2013 / – Commissioner for Equality Nevena Petrusic during her two-day visit to Vranje and Bujanovac had several meetings with representatives of local authorities and CSO to present mechanisms for the protection of women’s equality in the fight against discrimination.
At a panel discussion in Vranje attended by volunteers of the NGO on Human Rights Committee and SOS phone for victims of domestic violence, Petrusic said:
– It is very important that I noticed willingness of the city authorities and representatives of civil society in Vranje for mutual cooperation in order to have as fewer cases of discrimination against women. The leaders are Human Rights Committee and the team of volunteers of SOS telephone, on whose initiative was formed and Local team for the prevention of discrimination and violence that includes all institutions of police, social workers to justice. It was a great success and should serve as a model for others – assessed Petrusic.
In cooperation with the Human Rights Committee and SOS telephone for women victims of domestic violence, Nevena Petrusic did the first study in southern Serbia on „The work of institutions in the protection of domestic violence in the territory of Pcinja district“ in 2010.
