/November 29, 2020./ The SOS Girls’ Corner Program and the Vranje Human Rights Committee organized a mini zoom conference on November 29, 2020, entitled „Tea Party – Let’s Break the Myth That We Don’t Matter“, and in this way marked the International Day of Human Rights Defenders.
The conference entitled „Tea Party: Let’s Break the Myth That We Don’t Matter“ is part of our „Let’s Break the Myth …“ campaign during the United Nations Global Orange Campaign and the „16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women“ campaign.
The panelists were prominent young human rights defenders, fighting and advocating for greater rights for all girls. They presented the ways in which they fight to improve the position of girls, shared their experiences and inspirational stories with other participants and sent a message that girls are important. Tea parties were attended by girls from all over Serbia and the region, as well as representatives of organizations fighting for human rights.
The focus of the SOS Corner for Girls Vranje program is the promotion and greater implementation of the Istanbul Convention, activities are dedicated to the prevention, recognition, protection of girls from gender-based and partner violence
The Vranje Human Rights Committee is in the field of working with girls through the SOS Corner for Girls Vranje Program, winner of the World With and For Girls Award as the best program in the world that works with and for girls. The program is implemented by a team of about 30 peer educators and volunteers with the goal of reducing gender-based violence and educating girls aged 13 to 18 about what is partner and domestic violence, how to recognize it, where and to whom to report, how to protect yourself. In the previous four years, over 3,000 girls from the south of Srija, from the Pčinja district, were informed and acquired the skills of recognizing and protecting against partner-domestic violence.
