/ Vranje, October 18 2016./ In celebration of the 18th October, the European Day Against Human Trafficking, members of Anti-trafficking network in Serbia, in Vranje organized a street action „Only together we can prevent human trafficking.“
Human Rights Committee Vranje is the organizer of this action with the participation of the members of the Local Network of Vranje for the prevention and the fight against human trafficking.
The central activity is organized in the center of Vranje, with dissemination of information material and interviews with citizens.
The aim of the campaign was to inform and raise the awareness of citizens and the general public about the social problem of human trafficking, forms and mechanisms of protection.
According to data from NGO Astra, in the first eight months of 2016 was identified 12 adult victims of trafficking. Two females were exposed to sexual exploitation, and in two cases it was a forced marriage.
Seven men were subjected to labor exploitation, and in one case it was a compulsion to beg.
More victims was identified for the first six months of this year than during the whole of 2015.
Centre for the protection of victims of trafficking until the end of August 2016 identified 32 victims of human trafficking, citizens of the Republic of Serbia mainly, exploited on the territory of Serbia. Most of the identified victims in Serbia are women and girls, while in ten cases the victims were minors.
Members of AT network from eight cities took part – Human Rights Committee Vranje, SOS for Women and Children Victims of Violence Vlasotince, Center for Girls Nis, Independent Women’s Center Dimitrovgrad, ASTRA Belgrade, PAOR Zrenjanin, Women’s Rights Center Vrsac, Center for Girls Uzice – so as the representatives of institutions and NGOs from Vranje and members of the Local network for the prevention and the fight against human trafficking Vranje.
