Today on May 21, activists of SOS Phone Vranje and local NGO partners have collected about 100 signatures of citizens of Vranje, who in this way support our action for a fast and efficient response of the state to stop femicide .
These, as well as over a thousand signatures collected by the activists of Women Against Violence Network from all over Serbia, to send to the Ministry of Interior.
We ask the state to follow the example of many European countries and to urgently amend the Police Act with measures of removal of perpetrator from family home and ban on contacting the victim in 14 days.
A large turnout of residents of Vranje confirms the need for the State to take urgent measures to increase prevention and stop violence and killings of women – announced today Miroslava Despotovic, an activist of SOS Hotline Vranje.
Since the beginning of 2015, 21 women murdered by a partner or male family members! Only in three days in May 7 women killed.
Action in Vranje is a call for a swift and effective response by the state to stop femicide. A big protest is taking place in Belgrade on the same day organized by the Network of Women Against Violence, AWC and Women in Black.
