/ Belgrade, July 31, 2014. / Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence comes into force on August 1, 2014. This is an important step in the history of the women’s movement, as well as a reminder of how much remains to be done to improve the status of women and their children who have suffered violence.
Convention against violence against women shall come into force on August 1, 2014. For the Autonomous Women’s Center, Network of Women against Violence and member organizations of the network Women Against Violence of Europe (WAVE), the upcoming event is a huge success in the history of the women’s movement. The Convention is a comprehensive instrument at European level that recognizes violence against women, which has been ratified by 13 states and signed by 23 countries. In the future it is necessary to ensure its full implementation as signatory states committed to work effectively in fight against violence against women.
